| Who Discovered Gold |
Since the beginning of time, man all over the world have clamoured for gold due to its beauty and apparent value. Loose gold in nugget form was first found in stream beds and made into precious treasure and used as currency in Crete, Egypt and Sumer, but experts and historians say that it could be either Egyptians and Sumerians who discovered gold since 3,000 BC. A question more important than who discovered gold is the question ?Who made gold popular??. While it is not known the exact person who discovered gold, most researchers will agree that it is the Egyptians and Sumerians that popularized the culture of using gold as both decorations and a symbol of wealth. |

After the Egyptians and Sumerians made gold a strong element in the economic front, it was the Roman Empire who married gold with fine gems to further enhance the usage of gold in society. Native Americans on the other hand, dabbled with the fine arts of creating gold alloys and mechanical plating to make gold even more desirable. Fast forward to modern day California. The Gold Rush is an important even in gold history, so it is no wonder that everyone is asking who discovered gold that led to the Gold Rush in California. The person in question is a young lumber mill worker called James W. Marshall who discovered gold in the area. |
This triggered off a wild search for gold and he indirectly brought people from different continents to California in order to get their hands on the precious metal. A lot of people became rich overnight but those who did not, stayed on in California and thus conceived the beginnings of a multi-cultural society in the United States.
